The Bassa of Niger State live in the Gumna area, which was under Zaria in pre-jhad days, and from where the exodus of the Bassa of Plateau, Kogi, and Abuja took place. The Bassa of Niger State are therefore of the same stock with those of other States and the federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Today, the Bassa of Niger State are found scattered in the Suleja, Kotangora, Lapai and Rafi Local Government areas of the State. From the foregoing, it is established that a people called Bassa are in physical existence in Nigeria. Found in Plateau, Kogi, and Niger States, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, they live in what could rightly be called a single geographical whole divided only by State boundaries.
